Reading with Alice Brauner
“Also dann in Berlin …”
Artur and Maria Brauner – A story of survival, great cinema and the power of love

The life of legendary film producer Artur “Atze” Brauner and his wife Maria: a story of wartime survival, great love and the dream of bringing Hollywood to Berlin.
Szczecin 1945. Returned from the vastness of Russia and Uzbekistan, where his family survived the war and Nazi persecution, Artur Brauner makes plans for the future. At the train station, he meets a young woman: Maria, who had escaped deportation from the Lemberg ghetto with dyed blond hair and a false identity – and had worked in a camp hospital in Hanover. Now she is on her way to Warsaw, hoping to find survivors of her family there.

Now his daughter Alice Brauner tells the story of her extraordinary parents, spanning their childhood in Poland, the turmoil of war, a new beginning in Germany of all places, and the more recent past. A story about the power of love, about great cinema and about how dreams come true – despite everything. Touching, full of magic and joie de vivre.
